Eddie Johnson, He Went And Did It Again

You know everyone and their brother is going to feel the need to weigh in on the situation of Eddie Johnson and give their 2 cents. Johnson, announced his inclusion with the January USMNT squad via twitter earlier this afternoon and this is, of course, his second offense of committing such offense, prior to the official roster/announcements come from coach Jurgen Klinsmann.

But… I mean common. There is talk that Stephen Linhart could get a call. With the emphasis on MLS players in general– due to the off-season break, it would be a scandal for EJ to be left off the roster. If you consider what he did back in October with the first team, than him posting the recent news on twitter.

I get it that there is protocol for this sort of thing, but, it’s EJ. The guy can and generally does whatever and so long as he’s in good standing people pretty much laugh it off. The guy brings  a sort of “safe” crazy to the league and that’s nice. More personality is needed. And to be honest in an era of mass information and social media it’s really difficult for people not to put together most of the pieces anyways.

I, for one, am glad to see EJ’s continued run with the squad. I would really like to see Brad Evans also get an opportunity to run through camp. There were late rumors a couple of months ago that he could be considered for a late addition with injuries to a few of the fellas. It would be nice for Jurgen to see where he is at as he’s obviously made strides to becoming more than what he was even just a year ago.

Speaking of other US-candidates on our squad I kind of wonder where the whole situation is with Ozzie Alonso. I’m sure Dave or Jeremiah could enlight us all on the situation and I’m sure the Sounders keep a close eye on everything.

But, he’d would be such a steal for the US National Team and his situation is really why FIFA has started evaluating players situations and national team affiliation anyways. Alonso, Michael Bradley and Danny Williams would be a lot of fun up the middle for the next 6-8 years.

Anyways… we’ll see what other MLS players make the squad. Should be an interesting watch against Canada and a fun camp in general.
