The Reign claimed all three points against the Houston Dash on Sunday, handing them their third win of the season.
Only one goal was scored at Memorial Stadium on Sunday evening and that goal was enough to give the Reign their third win of the season and push them into 6th place in the NWSL standings. That goal didn’t come until the second half though, with nothing really happening during the first 45 minutes. The best chance of that half came on a Fishlock corner, who saw her corner connect with Fletcher on the far post. Fletcher’s initial header was well saved by Houston goalkeeper Williams and the rebound fell to Corisie, who put her shot wide of the post.
The goal came in the 66th minute when Yanez found Solaun at the top of the box who took a touch and ripped a shot past Williams’ right post to give the Reign the one goal lead and Solaun her first NWSL goal. The Reign could have made it two when Mathias picked up the ball at the top of the box, but her shot went over the bar.
This was Solaun’s first NWSL start and she was named the player of the game.
This game also marked the return of Seattle’s national team players Hope Solo, Kim Little, Rachel Corsie and Jess Fishlock.
The Reign will head to New Jersey next weekend to take on Sky Blue FC next Sunday. Kick-off at Yurcak Field starts at 3:00. You can watch the game online on YouTube or follow along on social media.
