Our 1st 2025 CCC opponent has been drawn and it's Antigua GFC a club out of Guatemala. But who are they and how do we match up? That's what I've found out!

The 2025 CCC 1st round matches have been drawn and it's the club from out of Guatemala: Antigua GFC. But who are they, that's the question. If you know anything about the beautiful game of soccer, it’s that winners are often bought and on that front, there's no contest. While the Sounders are worth 49.35 million pounds, the Antigua GFC are worth 3.58 million pounds, so not close. One of the reasons for that is CCC success. The Sounders won the 2022 edition of the CCC and have been to the CCC only 3 times but all 3 times, we went past the 1st round, with a QF in 2018, Ro16 in 2022 and most recently our CCC title in 2022. Antigua GFC also have only had 3 appearances in 16-17, getting eliminated in the group stage in the old format, only made the preliminary round in 2019 and finally in 2020 managed its best ever finish with the Ro16.

As for the current squad, the most valuable player on Antigua GFC is a new arrival from Venezuela's Metropolitanos FC Robinson Flores, but life in Guatemala has gotten off to a rocky start for him. Flores in all of the competitions, has made 26 appearances and has a grand total of 4 goals and 2 assists on the right wing. So yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah, could be going a lot better. But if he isn't scoring or helping ‘em get goals, then who is? Their top scorer is a loanee from Argentina named Santiago Gomez. On loan from Deportivo Pereira, a team in the Colombian 1st tier, in 23 league appearances, Gomez has scored 10 goals and 7 yellow cards.  As for who's creating the goals look no further than the man wearing No.99, Romario from Brazil. In 27 league appearances, he's had a massive 14 assists, which his 4 goals, puts him 8 goals ahead of the next Antigua GFC player in terms of total goal contributions, which is Gomez actually.

This year so far hasn't been going the best for Antigua GFC, to be real with you. In 16 games,
Antigua GFC are 6th in the league, on 23 points, scoring 27 goals, to giving up 24 for a positive goal difference of only 3. They're only a few games out of 1st place, which is currently Xelajú MC on 30 points. Antigua GFC have actually scored the most goals out of everyone in the Liga Nacional de Fútbol de Guatemala, this season being 1 goal above the league leaders, but have tied the 3rd most goals in the league at the same time. This means that they have an obvious strength in offense and an obvious weakness in defense. Which means that this should be a very entertaining leg to kick off our campaign but it’s one we should be able to handle easily. Thanks a bunch for reading!
