However, all is for naught if the Sounders can't win their own games.

The Sounders have repeatedly stated that winning the Concacaf Champions League title was a major accomplishment, but it isn't a substitute for the MLS season. Seattle has a long history of making the playoffs that the club wants to uphold. Head coach Brian Schmetzer talks about the club's history frequently, and "Sounders never quit" is a common phrase seen on the team's social media and heard during press conferences.

The team has tough contests coming up, specifically against Cincinnati and Kansas City, and earning six points in both matches w be crucial. No other teams vying for a playoff spot are playing on Sept. 27, so the Sounders would jump up to ninth place with a win and be one away from Real Salt Lake and the Galaxy.

Seattle might not have done themselves any favor with losses against Portland and Orlando in late August and then their recent loss against Vancouver. However, hope is not lost for the CCL champions. They just have a narrow rope to walk on.
