On Wednesday night, Seattle Reign FC faced the University of Washington women’s soccer team in their yearly preseason match. The Reign secured a 2-1 win with a bit more than 2,000 fans cheering them on. Jess Fishlock and Bethany Balcer netted the goals for the Reign, while Jadyn Holdenried scored for the Huskies. Jordyn Huitema and Quinn have joined Canada for the W Gold Cup. Alana Cook remains sidelined with an injury. Reign started the game with the following 4-4-2 formation: Ivory; Huerta, McClernon, Holmes, Brown; Van der Jagt, James, Fishlock, So-Yun; King, Latsko.

In the 35th minute, the UW defense failed to clear a ball in the box. Fishlock, who was left unguarded near the goal, took advantage of the opportunity and chipped the ball over the goalkeeper to the far corner.

The Huskies leveled the score shortly after with their only significant shot on the Reign's goal. The Reign defense seemed to have stopped a counterattack, but they gave Holdenried too much room and she fired a precise missile to the far top corner from about 25 yards away.

In the halftime, Reign made six substitutions. Woodham, Lester, Meza, Mercado, Adames and Weinert subbed in for Huerta, McClernon, Fishlock, James, So-Yun, King and Latsko, respectively. Another change happened in the 71st minute when Carr replaced Brown.

The Reign scored the decisive goal in the 80th minute. Weinert reached a loose ball in the UW area and was fouled by a late challenge. Balcer took the resulting penalty and confidently placed her shot in the lower right.

After the goal, three more subs in the Reign: Stanton, Athens and Gourley in for Holmes, Van der Jagt and Adames.
