Many great players have never lived up to their full potential something most people don't wish on most of these young players working hard to become great at the craft their passionate about. It still happens occasionally and sadly it's still something we have to think about now when thinking about Reed Baker-Whiting.
Tim Ostlund-Foss was doing a squad on update when he broke the tragic news to us. “Paul’s scheduled for 30 minutes, and I will break the news to you guys here, Reed did injure his hamstring.” Schmetzer says that RBW pulled his hamstring, but that it’s not the same injury as last year, it’s higher up. They’ll do an MRI when they get back to Seattle, but don’t know the extent now. The best news is that it's not the same injury which is the only good thing we could really hear at this point.
Last year at the young age of 18 he already suffered 2 injuries one minor but the other was major. Lasting for 156 games and costing him 10 games. It's a worrying pattern at this point while we don't know how bad it is yet it's still a very bad sign. I really hope this doesn't weigh him down too much someone as energetic and creative as him is always incredibly entertaining to watch. So seeing him blossom into a elite player would be a very fun sight. Not to mention it's never good to see a young man's hard work stricken down by his own body, the ultimate betrayal.
We do have talented reinforcements if worse comes to worse such as Travian Sousa and Cody Baker. “Well, Cody, look, he’s a talented kid... he’s a versatile kid, we’re going to need everybody. ... He works hard, I can tell you that today he was the best player in training.” He says the challenge has been in determining his best position, but that he’s a great lockdown guy. “It’s always harder in our sport to create things than destroy things ... I’m happy that multiple players have scored goals ... everybody’s pitching in.” Brian said on depth at wingback: “We’ve got plenty... we’ve got a ton of wingbacks ... Georgi, in games where we’re at home and we’re playing 3-4-3,” Schmetzer listed off a ton of players, adding Kalani Kossa-Rienzi as a player not signed to the first team who can also help there. “We’ve always had the attacking mindset, we just haven’t put the ball in the back of the net ... we’re going to continue to work on our attacking, we’re going to try to get even better... we’re working on a lot of things to try to keep it good all year,” and avoid having teams ‘figure them out’
Overall the team will be hurt but not too hurt by Reed Baker-Whiting's loss and I hope he makes a very speedy recovery and comes back better than ever. Please catch our 2 preaseason matches vs IFK Norrköping and Hammarby Fotboll tomorrow and thanks a bunch for reading!
