Recently the Sounders have made a press release regarding the expansion happening for San Diego FC. This comes in the form of 250,000 in a rather unique trade. The Sounders get the 250k in exchange give up two 2025 International Roster Slots. Including one we got from a trade last year with New England. Which makes a lot of sense considering a lot of the recent transfer business and rumors the Sounders have done and been linked to.

Yesterday we signed we signed two defenders both young Americans Travian Sousa and Leo Burney both young Americans even one from our own youth ranks. Then there's of course there's the 2 FC Dallas attackers Paul Arriola and Jesus Ferreira have a combined 74 USMNT caps between them. Though Jesus Ferreira would need to be a International Player shot I believe. Either way it shows that the Sounders recruiting is really US based this season so far. That implies this isn't spur of the moment but a strategy we're implementing.

On the one hand you look at the Sounders historically has had success with foreign players being brought into to the Sounders field. Such as all-time top scorer Raul Ruidíaz and Obafemi Martins plus other hidden gem finds throughout the history of the MLS like ex MVPs Sebastian Giovinco and David Ferreira. But of course we've also had success buying players within the MLS. Frei is a great example as we bought him from Toronto FC and he's been the goalie for us since. Chad Marshall

was a great defender with us and he was bought from the Columbus Crew. Even Osvaldo "Honey Badger" Alonso we bought from the Charleston Battery in the USL. So doing it for a year should be no problem.

This isn't a strategy that's doomed to fail since there's plenty of talented players in the MLS or from the US to build a great MLS roster around. Though it does make it harder to find a impact player on the cheap who can move from a lower league to the MLS no problem. As if we're only dealing with players from the USA or in the MLS it does make their impact more easy to know and value more rock solid. But we already have a great squad a few more great not spectacular pieces and we should keep contending if not win the MLS Cup this time around. Plus of course more money does make it easier to make signings in the transfer marker and resigning players to new deals (Please Rusnák). Thanks a bunch for reading!
