One-third of the way through the season, it is time to look at how the Sounders are doing. Having so many away games to start the season while the field was prepped for the World Cup provided the Sounders with a challenge.

In the MLS, the home team has generally had a +1 goal advantage, making road wins very difficult. When combined with the poor starts of previous years and key players being out. It could have been a disastrous beginning to the 2026 season.

No one player has dominated, and the goals have come from a variety of players while no one has been able to consistently score on premium opportunities. The Sounders have been down at least one designated player and a central defender for the season so far. They have a new goaltender and a lot of younger players on the team that have been asked to step up for the injury-plagued veterans.

There have been a couple of standout players for the Sounders to start the season. Christian Roldan continued his good form and was rewarded with a roster spot on the USMNT. Albert Rusnak has been a consistent playmaker on the attack. The defensive play of Jackson Ragen and Nouhou has been stellar, and Andrew Thomas has looked brilliant between the pipes.

The Sounders dropped to 6th in the Western Conference after back-to-back poor performances against the LA teams, where they were held scoreless and made critical mistakes on the defensive end that cost them 3 goals in those games. With that said, they are going into the World Cup break in a better position than in previous years where they have stumbled out of the gate.

The Sounders have 3 wins and a tie on the road, which is may come in handy if the team goes on another run that could challenge for the top spot in the division.
