This year, the Sounders celebrated the life of one of the most legendary martial artists and actors ever, Bruce Lee, and the 50th anniversary of both his death and one of his famous films, “Enter the Dragon”, to celebrate how he and his own philosophy has impacted the world through the amazing design. That we'll go into detail today.

The most striking detail is the yellow that is found all around the jersey meant to make it pop and stand out from the darker colors featured on the rest of the jersey. The sunbeam yellow accents symbolize “the center of everything” and are associated with nature, balance, and heroism. The other standout detail was of course the dragon all over the front of the jersey with it also having great significance, with the hand-drawn dragon design representing strength and power, and Bruce’s official signature even stamps the bottom of each jersey, including the dragon symbol.

Further tribute is paid with the back of neck as it features Bruce Lee's famous Core Symbol, an insignia created by Bruce as a representation of his martial art form, Jeet Kune Do, and his personal philosophy. Encircling the Yin Yang symbol are two opposing directional arrows and characters for Bruce Lee’s famous quote: “Using no way as way; having no limitation as limitation.”

And I think it all comes together perfectly. The shade of red especially and the design of the dragon are the best parts. The dark red we used is already so beautiful on its own but it also contrasts perfectly standing out from the black but also letting the yellow stick out, that perfect harmony between elements is also something Bruce Lee talked a lot about and this aspect of the design does a excellent job in representing that through its color as well.

Speaking of the yellow, it's as tastefully done as possible with a bright color, as it's never the primary part on any of the clothes, preventing people from being blinded by the brilliance of Bruce Lee, I guess. Instead it serves its role as a secondary perfectly to help make the kit pop and stand out. The dragon is so well designed too, obvious without standing out so much and so detailed, you can feel its presence the moment you look at it.

And that's exactly why I'll miss the kit next season. Not only is it a great tribute to a great man, but it achieves that greatness through an amazing design that I'm sure will become the crown jewel of collectors everywhere for years to come. I wish it could be the away kit every season. Thanks a bunch for a similar article; here's one where I judge Sounders logos.
