Today on Soccerwise Bogert and Gass 39 minutes into their podcast broke down the details of what have so far been the 2 biggest moves the Sounders have been linked to. Those being moves for 2 of FC Dallas's USMNT capped starting attackers Ferreira and Arriola. And how close we are to actually closing those deals and how much it'll cost. So let's get into the points they made.
The 1st thing to take away is that no matter what happens to this move Ferreira is out of FC Dallas. Not only was he offered around the league but his original intent was to go Europe but no European doors opened for the American forward. That has major implications if the Sounders do buy him. Because if they do and he starts playing elite again in a season or 2 he could be out the door with 1 eye set on Europe always.
But also the Arriola deal is closer and will likely be done first. Not only that but FC Dallas will be taking on some of his salary for the Sounders meaning we save some money though it's undisclosed how much for now. Another key detail is that officially these are 2 separate deals as Ferreira wants to go for a clean 3 million dollars with all parties saying that they need a change of scenery. Meaning this is the likely beginning of a FC Dallas rebuild. Though league sources say this is unlikely and it'll be instead 2 mil-2.5 mil with a player thrown in which would make it a swap deal.
As a matter of fact according to the podcast FC Dallas is indeed starting back from scratch because they want to build around new coach, 1st time MLS coach Eric Quill. Showing a lot of confidence in a 1st time and very young coach. And if you're a fan of the MLS as whole be on the lookout for moves involving FC Dallas. Sounds like they're cleaning house but not waiting to collect new inventory 1 of the many things that makes a transfer window so exciting. Bogert also expects Lleget to be on the move as well.
Something that could be historic is that this could be a first move for the internal cash trade market if that goes through. Forever marking it in the history of the MLS and American sports overall. Though he would have to sign a new deal it doesn't mean he'll be any cheaper because Bogart said: t: "I don't know this for a fact, but this tells me, between the overwhelming assumption that Albert Rusnak returns and then potentially using a DP spot to trade for Jesus Ferreira, that ownership isn't giving front office discretionary spending. I might be wrong, I hope I am. But my read on this from the outside is, OK, we're not going to get $6m to spend to sign a DP forward. Jesus Ferreira is a fantastic option if that's not the case. So I don't know, we'll see, but that would be my fear as a Sounders fan just in terms of the general level of discretionary spending." If the salary does stay the same that's 2,000,000 a year slowly decreasing but staying around that range.
