We already knew the Kim Kee-Hee signing was being talked about and was in the works. But recently Oshan on Lobbing Scorchers has given more details on the move for the South Korean defender.
1 rumor that's been confirmed by Oshen on the podcast was that it was Kee-Hee was the 1 who approached the Sounders, most likely because of what was reported which was that he wants to end his career in the Emerald City. And that the transfer had run into trouble due to Kee-Hee's current Korean club. The current K-League bext XI member is of course highly valued by his current club Ulsan HD FC so the team knows as the Tigers are getting their claws out and fighting tooth and claw with the Sounders over him. Part of that is that while Kee-Hee had assumed he talked to his club but the club refuted that. Saying that he hadn't, could be them being desperate and stubborn or genuine miscommunication. But it looks like that issue either is currently or has been put to bed.
The best take away from all this is that Kee-Hee accepted the Sounders salary requirements. Meaning we got someone like him for a way lower salary than most. Due to how much he loves the city of Seattle. So while it won't be long as he is 35 so doesn't have a lot of career ahead but at least for 2025 he'll be a very valuable piece of the Sounders defense and another MLS title push. He was there for our most recent MLS Cup in 2019 and with how much he loves Seattle, I'm sure he'd love to bring another one to the Puget Sound shore.
With the Sounders switching to a 5-3-2 and Josh Atencio switching to centerback it's yet to be seen if he'll be a depth piece or a starter this year. But whatever the case may be. He'll will add great depth to the Sounders core this season! Thanks a bunch for reading!
