After weeks of waiting I'm sure we'll excited that the Sounders have announced their pre-season schedule for the year of 2025! So let's get into it!
As discussed in my last article we'll be facing Puskás Akadémia FC the Hungarian club that was started in 2005 and already looks to be close to get it's 1st ever Nemzeti Bajnokság I title which is the top flight in Hungarian soccer. Next on January 31st the Sounders will be facing Aalborg BK the team currently 9th in the Danish Superliga standings and they've won the Danish Superliga 4 times. With their most recent title being in the 2013-14 season. February 5th will provide us with a match with more Nordic clubs, those being IFK Norrkøping and then later in the day Hammarby IF.
Hammarby Fotboll
or Hammarby IF the team that's currently 8th in the Allsvenskan both this season and in the all-time table. The team co-owned by Swedish Superstar Zlatan Ibrahimović will finish a exciting day of Nordic double-headers for us. A day that'll be started off by IFK Norrkøping the Leicster City of Sweden. As they shocked the European nation in 2015 when they won their 1st Allsvenskan title since 1989. And have not a single title since. They finished 11th of 16 teams in the Allsvenskan last season and so will be looking to use this preseason as a tune-up to have a better season for 2025.
To end our preseason trip on February 12th will be facing a fellow US team in Louisville City FC at the Providence Swedish Performance Center & Clubhouse. So there's still a Nordic connection. They play in the USL Championship the US's own 2nd tier. Louisville City FC is currently going through their own golden era winning the USL Cup 2 times in 2017 and 2018 plus runner-ups in the Cup 2019 and 2022. In 2024 Louisville won it's 1st ever regular season title after 4 different regular season runner-up finishes in 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2022. Though they are yet to have luck in the playoffs, leaving them titleless so far. Which also makes them the perfect test a week before the MLS season in February 19th. Thanks a bunch for reading!
