Yesterday the Sounders played their 2nd game of the preseason against Danish club AaB Fodbold and managed to beat them in a very exciting 5-3 match! And here's a breakdown we could take away from this game that could apply to the upcoming MLS season!
The first thing to take note of is that Pedro de la Vega has now scored in back to back preseason games! Our big money signing last season struggled but this shows promise. Showing he's clicking together and understanding the Sounders system much better. If we can get him playing better then that 1-0 loss the LA Galaxy to the conference semis wouldn't happen. If he improves our odds of going to the 2025 MLS Cup final and winning it that much. Another thing that was easy to notice was how great the team work was. Not against MLS level competition sure but it's great seeing all the perfectly executed short passes and link play. They're very creative too, it's been very entertaining to watch so far, love seeing the style of play of the Sounders so far.
The game initially started almost exactly like the last preseason friendly against Puskás Akadémia FC with the Sounders scoring 2 goals in the 1st half and the starters only 1 goal before the entire team was subbed off for the youngers guys at halftime. Here after we went up 4-1 the young guys understandably got cocky and gave up 2 goals making it 4-3. But Obed Vargas 90th minute goal sealed the win for the RAVE Green. Another good takeaway is how great the younger players were at forcing errors in our third. With a good amount of attacks being created in or right outside our box with great pressing. Very promising seeing so much aggression and energy from the younger guys.
Another great sign is that we've scored 2 set piece goals in back to back games. This level of organization and teamwork is confidence inspiring. There's some notable flaws however worth bringing up. Jordan Morris still can't hit the broadside of a barn but it's early days if he works on that his position and powerful leg can convert those into goals, let's hope soon. Plus the younger players were way too selfish in the box. Choosing to shoot instead of making the smart pass. I know you're trying to impress the coaches to get a chance with the Sounders but promise you they'll be more impressed if you make the best play to help the Sounders score instead of trying and failing to score yourself. Thanks a bunch for reading!
