A Thought On Historical Occureances

I don’t have much time to really sit down and write and maybe this idea or thought would be served with more time. But then again that’s most of my writing as the majority of it is rather left incomplete or done to a very easy level. Joshua Mayers write yesterday about Sounders victories, in which they score 3 or more goals over their opponent in the match. Likewise he also chronicled the Galaxy and losses they suffered where the opposing team scored 3 or more goals over their own contributions.

It’s a neat little theory and I love the idea of looking at historical relevance.  You know, how often has such an occurrence happened and is there precedence for a Sounders victory this coming weekend that could find the Sounders on the way to their first MLS Cup?  The problem with that is it’s just statistics and historical mentions. What happens this Sunday isn’t going to be determined by anything but the personnel issued to the pitch. I don’t care if it’s happened a lot or if it’s never happened at all. Come Sunday, all I care about is the fact that the Sounders throw every last thing at the LA Galaxy.

Mauro Rosales, has to start. Eddie Johnson, has to start. There is no try and draw the game. It’s all about finding the back of the net and finding it as frequently as possible. It’s about grit and determination. Having guys like Brad Evans and Jeff Parke out there, is going to ensure that the Sounders won’t quit. I love that they run and don’t ever quit. It’s part of those “intangibles” that I so begrudgingly accept from time to time.

When we talk about player evaluations we mostly mean within the context of multiple matches. We do this because within the context of 90 mins so much When others argue for players they do so with specific intangibles in mind. Coming home to the CLink the Sounders are going to need the best mixture of both and pray that a little magic happens. It doesn’t matter what’s happened in the past, everyone keeps saying crazy things can happen in one game. Here is hoping that crazy things happen.
