Okay, I said I didn’t expect anything to happen in regards to the Sounders adding anyone but I hadn’t really paid any attention to Twitter.
Apparently Major League Soccer will be auctioning off the rights to Mobi Fehr the 18-year-old defensive phenom tomorrow via a lottery in which not just the Portland Timbers, but also the San Jose Earthquakes AND your Seattle Sounders will take part.
The rules for the lottery state, “The team with the worst record over its last 34 regular-season games (dating back to previous season if necessary and taking playoff performance into account) will have the greatest probability of winning the lottery.”
Seattle have a 15.5 percent chance of landing Fehr, while San Jose, the 2012 Supporters’ Shield winners, have just a 1.4 percent chance. No other team opted to enter the lottery. – MLSSoccer, Nicholas Rosanano
I don’t know why, but I kind of chalked it up to him already being a Timber, but apparently that’s not true… just yet. The buzz as far as social media is concerned is that the Sounders are interested in his talents and that’s kind of a “duh” type statement. Young defensive (cheap) prospect that is drawing interest from other northwest teams… COUNT US IN! Of course I’m really not sure how much he is ready to step into a first team situation and I tend to believe that this is probably a better deal for the Timbers than it really would be for us, but he’s a very talented young man and it’s hard not to want that with your club.
