Lamar Neagle Returns

Yesterday, afternoon the Seattle Sounders traded an international slot to their 2013 opening days rivals, the Montreal Impact, in return for former Federal Way and Sounder standout, Lamar  Neagle. You’ll of course remember Neagel to be one of the young featured pieces of the Eddie Johnson deal nearly one year ago, that people were so adamantly negative about last year. It seems to have worked out well, yes?

Neagle obviously comes at a relatively cheap cost and only makes the league minimum which should hurt the budget much. The Sounders only gave up one of their eight international slots and, according to Joshua Mayers, are using four of the remaining seven on Johansson, Martinez, Rose (I always forget he’s an international) and Tiffert. Obviously how he will be used is yet to be seen but cheap players with potential helium are always nice.

Again, speculation being what it is, this maybe an indicator that Cordell Cato will not be with the team this year. It was already rumoured that he was having contract issues which prevented him from joining in camp.

Personally, I like having Neagle but if you give me an option I prefer Cato, for as raw as he is he’s a much higher ceiling talent. Certainly nothing is decided just yet and having Neagel isn’t a bad thing.
