Shavar Thomas; The Sounders Newest Trailist

I can’t believe these new guys keep swimming in here, but alas trialist keep finding themselves opportunities with the Sounders. I was under the impression this would likely stop soon, as the friendly with the Timbers was suppose to comprise itself mostly of new, young and individuals they (the team) hadn’t “quite made up their minds” on just yet.

Shavar Thomas was indicated to of join the team as the latest trailist by Joshua Mayers earlier this afternoon. This is hardly surprising as Thomas has seen his rounds with MLS clubs serving as a 3rd centreback the last few season with Sporting KC and most recently with the Montreal Impact. Along with trailist Mason Trafford, they seem as though to be likely competing for the same spot, as veteran defensive depth.

Thomas was a free-agent after not getting picked up following the re-entry draft and seems like a very “buy-low” option, which meets the Sounders requirements considering their budget constraints this season. I’m not sure as if I’m “sold” on the Jamaican international, as a few others on Thomas. Don’t get me wrong, he’s a fit for the club’s needs but I kind of lean heavy to Trafford based upon his position flexibility. But then again I don’t know necessarily what the club is looking for either.

It’ll be interesting to see if anyone else pops up in the next couple of days prior to the Timbers match. It’s rather obvious the Sounders are looking for depth and are ringing the school bell to see who will come and answer their need.
