With Albert Rusnák injured who plays the 10?

With Rusnak injured in the preseason and carrying a chronic hip injury (for which he’s taking cortisone shots), who plays the 10 when he’s either unable or being rested?

Tragically last season's player of the year who choose to resign for us this year has gotten a hip injury and while he could be back for Antigua but if he isn't fully ready for the start of the year, it leaves open a very important question. Who plays the 10 for us in the meantime? Let's discuss.

Our new big singing Jesus Ferreira isn't unfamiliar with more creative duties, he's a very creative player himself in face. Pretty good at dribbling while being excellent at holding onto the ball and has gotten 35 assists throughout his MLS career plus is very familiar with the CAM position starting there for FC Dallas last year in 10 games. Biggest flaw is obviously that that'll interfere with the two striker plan Brian Schmetzer wants to do. Though there's options he could go with. He could switch to a single striker system with Morris as the lone striker while the Columbian-American savior creating plays for him. Now there's a problem with that which is Morris famously still needs to work on his finishing and Jesus Ferreira is a better finisher for sure. So sticking with the 2 striker system is the better option. So then who else could with then?

Danny Leyva is a young player who's always on the outside looking in especially for the midfield, because he's a midfielder, duh. That has it's disadvantages for Leyva but it has it's benefits too especially for the team, 1 of which is that he works as a gadget player of the bench for the Sounders. Meaning that he can also briefly replace Albert Rusnák in the 10 role. Leyva also has his creative strengths but he does lack a lot of experience there as not only is he again very young but has mostly placed central midfielder or CDM for most of his career. There's other options as well so we should consider them too and in fact the best one is about to come.

Pedro De La Vega has yet to find his footing in Seattle but this preseason is looking very promising so far and his playstyle can slot perfectly into the number 10 role. He's a incredible dribbler which means he can attract defenders towards him and make short passes to Morris and Ferreira to have them finish the goals. Plus he's a threat with his finishing too meaning he can also replace Albert Rusnák's attacking threat as well. Now De La Vega is a winger but that only makes him a better choice. Out of our all offensive positions its the one we have the most depth at by far. So we can slot in Danny Musovski or Georgi Minoungou at his spot and either would be more than adequate replacements for the Argentine. Thanks a bunch for reading!
