I’ll be the first to say that I thoroughly enjoyed the time that Cato spent with the Sounders. His pace and ability down the right flank was super exciting and I had looked forward to the possibility of him coming back.
But we’ve known for a quiet a while that… due for whatever reason, communication, attitude… regardless of why, he was not going to be a Sounders. It makes sense that he would move on to another club that he could still get minutes from and continue to progress.
Apparently he found a team sooner than most fans were willing to cope with because it’s apparently thing. Off the top of my head I think he’s a perfect for replacing Simon Dawkins. The former Tottenham Spur came out last year on loan to the Earthquakes. Now this season, Dawkins has signed a transferred offer and is headed back to the premier league, leaving his mates with a whole out wide on the right flank… HEY isn’t that? Sure is, Cordell Cato‘s spot.
Now also true is that the Sounders in fact hold the rights to Cato and should the Quakes decide they want to move on Cato will have to deal with the Sounders front office before adding him to their roster. Those negotiations ought to be interesting and considering his age and experience starting and soring in CONCACAF Champions league player. It’s possible that the Sounders get some more allocation money too. Could be a very savy move by the front office to clear yet more room on the wage table.
A minor thing to watch and maybe see what arises from this one.
