Seattle Sounders FC QotD: Sporting Kansas City and Chances for Points

Okay, as promised here is your Seattle Sounders FC, question of the day:

Today is the day before the Sounders invade Sporting Park and rehash the events that transpired just a few months ago. Obviously neither team is quiet what they were. While Sporting Kansas City is firmly entrenched in a battle for the top of the table they aren’t necessarily the rock ‘em-sock ‘em defense that they previously maintained with Roger Espinoza.

But, on the other hand the Sounders have been slow out of the gate and have suffered a smattering of random injuries to key personnel across the board. Now, with an influx of red cards from the previous weekends game in Philadelphia. The Rave Green are now going to be even limited in their personnel choices.

However, if they can control the middle of the field and win the battle in the air, it’s possible that the Sounders could potentially steal 3 points from SKC. However, considering the fact that they still have Frenchman Aurélien Collin and recently minted USMNT Matt Besler as their centreback pairing, it stands to reason that the Sounders attack could continue it’s stuttering ways.

In which case the defensive back line, anchored by Djimi Traore, and the the return of Ozzie Alonso will mean so much more than usual as they will be responsible for giving the Sounders a chance at the minimum of one point and put the pressure on the forwards to take all three.

What say you? Should the Sounders only go into one of the toughest homes in MLS commanding to take 3-points or do they play it safe and hope just for one? Obviously each style has it’s pluses and minuses. Attacking heavily looking for a goal can leave you susceptible to the Counter Attack as the Sounders have experienced. But, bunkering leaves room for error. What if they score goal, that puts all the more pressure on the attack to find a way to score.

Which Would You Rather The Sounders Play for?

This might just be me being a homer for Seattle but I can justify a way SFC will prevail on Wednesday. 1. KC comes off a 4-0 win. 2. KC gets Kamara back. 3. SEA is in the cellars. 4. KC looking ahead to get revenge vs HOU this weekend.

SFC has everything going for them because NOTHING is going for them. 1. No Obafemi, Zakuani Evans and most likely E.J.. 2. SFC has an opportunity to seek revenge from USOC final loss. 3. Gets Ozzie back and SFC undefeated in over a month. 4. When backed against the wall they make it very interesting (RSL 2011, LA 2012, Tigres 2013) 5. For no other reason then because you are the underdog and not expected to win. 5.5. SFC is very unlikely to win on paper but the game isn’t played on paper.

I also bought lottery tickets because I’m feeling lucky so let’s see what happens. -TIM

I will agree that there are a lot of reasons for Sporting to overlook the Sounders going into the game tomorrow. Here’s hoping that it leads to 3 points!
