Seattle Sounders FC Possible To Face An Old Friend... He's Also An Old Foe

Okay, remember when I talked about how the Earthquakes were getting back both Stephen Lenhart and Alan Gordon for this upcoming match? Well, I was wrong. According to a new story, hot off the presses at MLS Soccer, the quakes are going to be without the antics of their “star” forward due to in injury. Here is a snippet to save you from heading out to their site:

But coach Frank Yallop told reporters Friday at training that Lenhart has been ruled out after suffering a flare-up in his bruised heel, and Jahn is dealing with a nasty right thigh contusion he received while doing some last-minute defending in the Quakes’ 2-1 win against Toronto FC on Wednesday.

And here is the link if you really want to read the rest of the article. What this could, POTENTIALLY, mean is that cult hero and former Sounder Mike Fucito could get the start against his former mates in Green. His time in Montreal, Portland and now in San Jose has yet yielded a lot of positive results in those 17 appearances. But that doesn’t mean much as he hasn’t had much in the way of consistent playing time.

Ultimately this is going to be a big opportunity for the small striker from Harvard still trying to prove his quality in this league. He fits the “gooner” mentality as his work rate is second to none and he never gives up on a play. He’ll be a consistent nuisance for the backline and yet he’s great at getting in behind with his positioning and finding those second chances.

It’s going to be tough to see him out on the pitch Saturday afternoon, but best of luck to him while he’s not on the pitch against Seattle.
