The wait is finally over… Pre-season standout Kévin Parsemain has been signed by the Seattle Sounders.
Parsemain, 26, co-led the pre-season Sounders squads with three goals (including this solo effort beauty against Cascadia rivals, Vancouver Whitecaps) while starting four of his six overall appearances and logging a total 248 minutes. Kévin will add another interesting dynamic to an already forward heavy Sounders squad as he can play as a center forward, a second striker or an attacking midfielder. During two of Martinique’s three matches in the 2013 CONCACAF Gold Cup he appeared as a Centre Attacking Midfielder. While he sported the 41 before season’s start, he will be wearing number 77 moving forward.
Kévin’s pro career received its start in 2005-06 season with Club Franciscain of Martinique’s top flight Championnat National, followed by joining then Ligue 1 side Le Mans FC in 2006 (he would play for their reserve team in France’s 4th division for 2 1/2 seasons) before moving to then third-division side Evian TG in the winter transfer window of 2009. The journeyman status would continue as he moved back to Martinique at the close of the 2008-09 season, joining Racing Club Rivière-Pilote.
Not only has he played the field quite extensively, but at a young 26 he already holds 33 caps for the Martinique National Team. He would play a vital role in Martinique’s qualifying for the 2012 CONCACAF Gold Cup, the nation’s first appearance in the tournament 10 years, with his stellar performance at the 2012 Caribbean Cup. Martinique would return to the Gold Cup in 2013 where Kévin would go on to have an impressive showing against my own countrymen in a 1-0 win over the Canadian National Team.
Is that not enough for you to get excited? How about a look at what Kévin is capable of with this 2013 Highlight package!
All in all, a very impressive addition to a Rave Green XI that already boasts some dangerous striking talent in Obafemi Martins and Clint Dempsey (to say nothing at all about midfielders Brad Evans and Lamar Neagle). As stated in the Sounders Vs. Crew preview, depth is always a desire with any Club and the Sounders certainly have that this year.
