Clint Dempsey: King Of Cascadia

Eight Months. It Took Clint Dempsey that long to arrive for the Seattle Sounders after his signing in August 2013. On Saturday he rose from a terrific start in the 2014 season, to a man possessed. The first half of the game against Dallas FC was one to be quickly forgotten with the exception of Clint Dempsey‘s Golazo. The second half featured another memorable comeback.

If 6 goals and 1 assist in 5 games is ugly, where do I sign up?

Dempsey is what Seattle was missing in Eddie Johnson, last year. Twice, in the past two weeks, he has loaded his team onto the #DempseyBus and said, ” Don’t worry guys, I got this.” The combination play between him and Obafemi Martins, after last week had the rest of the league shaking in its boots, will now be having defenders and coaches waking in late night cold sweats. It was only fitting Martins gets the goal off of the Dempsey rebound, as if a reward from the soccer gods for his truly hard work and team play through five games.

With 6 goals and an assist, Clint Dempsey is the early front-runner for league MVP, and doesn’t appear to be slowing down. After the game he said, “We won ugly.” If 6 goals in five games is ugly, where do I sign up. He is the fastest Sounder to 6 goals, and the season is not even a quarter over.

$6.7 million dollars is Dempsey’s salary this year. The highest paid player in the league. He has earned every penny so far. His can-do attitude is contagious to those around him. He is bonding with his team-mates; after the first Obafemi Martins’ goal, which Dempsey thought he had scored, he went over to Osvaldo Alonso and completed a secret goal celebration handshake. Something Johnson would have never dreamed of.  It has been a truly great start to the year for the Seattle Sounders, and they have Dempsey to thank for that.

Its’ Clint Dempsey’s world and we are all just in it.
