Is Chad Marshall Making A Late Push For The USMNT?
Chad Marshall, must have heard Sigi Schimd’s passionate words last week when he said Marshall should be considered for the Unites States Men’s National squad. On Saturday Marshall played like a man on fire, and with a renewed energy and vigor.
Marshall was a defensive wall, the likes Seattle Sounders’ fans haven’t seen in some time. The last wall most fans think of when associating with a Sounder, is that of former goal and current broadcaster, Kasey Keller. Chad Marshall’s 83rd minute goal to make it 4 games in a row the sounders have had a comeback win. It also marked the 10th goal in the final 30 minutes of the game for 2014 (Obafemi Martins scored the 9th earlier in the game).
While Sigi Schimd orginlly said the ” boat had likely already sailed” on Marshall’s ability to make the USMNT due to the closeness of the final roster call-ups, Marshall is doing everything in his power to at least make Jurgen Klinsmann think twice about not at least brining him to camp.
After the US vs Mexico friendly earlier this year, Klinsmann said the spots for center back were wide “open” , after Omar Gonzalez, had a rough outing and was burned for a goal in the game.
While it is late in the game for Chad Marshall to make a run at a spot on the national roster, it is not out of the realm of possibilities he could be invited to camp as part of the 30 man roster in a week. From there all bets are off as Marshall would need to impress during camp in order to make the final cut.
