Clint Dempsey hasn’t had a true off-season in quite some time, first it was the crazy move between Fulham and Spurs in 2012, then in 2013 the move from Spurs to Seattle. Even after that move was finalized, the next off-season wasn’t restful as he spent the Sounders off season playing on loan in England, again at Fulham.

This year, though, the USMNT and Sounders forward had some real time off for the first team since 2012. He missed the first few weeks of Sounders training thanks to his call-up with the USMNT, but the off-season was still significantly less intensive than his previous 2 or 3.
Dempsey rejoined the Sounders on Friday at Starfire and was up and ready to go with his teammates.
Dempsey had a slightly up and down season in 2014, where he started out hot for Seattle following his loan to Fulham, but then his form for Seattle dropped. He played well in Brazil for the USMNT in the 2014 World Cup, and it seemed to rejuvenate him as he finished strong with 6 goals and 6 assists in the Sounders last 11 games in the regular season.
I was sharp when I came here and I’m feeling sharp for the preseason camp now. I think what happened, and even after the World Cup, there was a little bit of a lull and a little bit of tiredness in the legs and figuring out how to get that back. I don’t think I’ll experience that this year, knock on wood.” – USMNT and Sounders Forward Clint Dempsey
The Sounders will need Dempsey to be in good form again this season, as the combination of Deuce and Obafemi Martins was key to the Seattle’s attack last season, and if the two of them can get that rapport going well early on in the season the Sounders should be the class of the West again.
The Sounders depart for their Tucson training camp Sunday the 15th, where they will take part in the Desert Diamond Cup tournament alongside FC Tucson, Sporting Kansas City and the New England Revolution.
