Seattle Sounders fans will be breathing a sigh of relief following the announcement of the USMNT’s squad for their first World Cup Qualifiers.

Clint Dempsey has not been included in the squad, meaning that unlike large parts of the season he will be fit and ready to play for the Sounders.

Thankfully for the Sounders, Klinsmann indicated that the squad was picked with the view to giving a number of the younger players a chance in what should be two manageable fixtures.

As expected, Sounders captain Brad Evans was also omitted from the squad as he continues to recover from a hamstring injury.

The fact that Dempsey does not have to travel for USMNT duty could be huge for the Sounders should they reach the Conference Finals.

Dempsey is in fine form at present due in part to the fact that he is finally feeling injury free. The chance to rest between Sunday’s FC Dallas game and the Conference Finals would be a big bonus.
