Can the Seattle Sounders Find Success Away From Home?

The Seattle Sounders have struggled to come away with results in their first 11 games of the season but they have a chance to turn things around on their upcoming stretch of road matches.

The Seattle Sounders currently near the bottom of the Western Conference standing as they have only come away with 13 points in 11 matches. The only team behind them in the standings are the Houston Dynamo who have only managed 11 points this season. The Sounders are tied for the fourth worst point total in the MLS.

Seattle has only played in four road games so far this season and they have a record of 0-3-1 in those games. Their lone point away from home came in a 1-1 draw against the Houston Dynamo. The team is currently on a two game road losing streak.

The Sounders will have three consecutive road games coming up on their schedule and this could either be a chance for them to turn things around or for them to fall even lower in the standings. The team will play the New England Revolution, D.C. United, and the New York Red Bulls in their next three matches.

These three games will be spread out over the course of 23 days. Seattle has struggled to score goals this season but even more so away from home. They are currently the second lowest scoring team with only 10 goals on the season. Only three of those goals have been scored on the road over the course of four games.

The Sounders will need to get results in their next three matches if they want to get back into the playoff picture in the Western Conference. There is still plenty of time and it is a long season but they will not want to fall into a deeper hole in the standings.

This road trip may be a chance for them to break out of their scoring struggles because their opponents aren’t the best of defenses in the MLS. New England is tied for allowing the most goals this season with 24. They also have a league worst -7 goal differential.

D.C. United is in the middle of the pack in terms of defending and have allowed 14 goals this season. They are a fairly strong home side as they have a 3-3-1 record. So it may be difficult for Seattle to defeat them in RFK Stadium.

The New York Red Bulls may be the Seattle Sounders toughest match-up of the three teams because they are one of the highest scoring teams in the league. They have scored 21 goals on the year but they have also allowed 20 goals this season. That game could be a shootout if the Sounders can find their scoring boots. The Red Bulls are 4-2-0 at home this season.

It will be interesting to see if the Seattle Sounders can turn things around on the road. One thing that is clear, is that they will need to find success away from home in their upcoming games. it is essential to the team’s success that they win in the hostile environments of their opponents’ stadiums.
