More Than Just A Fanbase

Early word out this morning is that Chris Hansen, the business man from California and original Seattle-ite, has finally acquired the Sacramento Kings with the sole intention of bringing them here to Seattle. Now, this is a soccer blog. It’s not about should we steal another team to gain a team or another like that. Don’t want to even touch that one.

But I have already seen some scepticism by some Sounder fans that this could be “detremental” to the Sounders and how it could take away support or attendence. Look I know that there are going to be some that won’t follow the Sounders as closely and I know as a business they compete against other buisnesses. But let me be the first to say, it’s not about the Sounders vs. the Sonics, should they return.

This is more than a team, more than just March – November calendar watch and more than just a specific “fan base”. This a culture.

I know that Dave Clark or Jeremiah or Prost Amerika will post something that will rally the troops to embrace basketball and at the same time, not feel as though the Sonics will diminish the impact of what the Sounders have done in the Northwest region.

Just a few thoughts this morning.
