So the word per Obafemi Martins twitter, is that his knee injury is not “too serious”. That’s the trouble with this whole self diagnosis business. He said it was originally something he could play through, then, not so much, now we’re awaiting word on how long is out for and if he may need surgery.
The general public can always relate to someone who will battle through injury to give his team that “one shot” at winning. The problem arises when his unselfish play prevents him from taking the field the following week or even mid-week for a cup game.
It’s great that he’s taking this whole thing in stride. One would hope that he’d be eager to return and that’s what it appears. But the tricky thing with knee injuries and legiment injuries in general is that they all tend to be liars. At one stop they could be telling you “you’re fine” and at the next stop you could be rolling around on the ground not able to walk.
These issues tend to be sensitive and can require time to heal properly. I would love to have Martins back on the first team–especially in light of recent events–but I would much rather he return and stay with the first team rather than fall prey to the injury bug.
Not that he doesn’t have that in his resume.
