Hercules Gomez to Sounders FC?

Okay I kind of missed this big ol’ rumor that is, presumably, taking Seattle by storm. I’d imagine it’s either hit the twittsphere rather hard by now and I’m just all late to the conversation. So, let’s just get to the point. The question isn’t about necessarily about whether or not that would make sense so much as how would it happen? Obviously we’ve got all three designated player spots in use. So the question here is whether or not he would need one, which seems silly to me (he’s going to get paid), or who goes between Shalrie Joseph and Mauro Rosales.

There is more to comment on but the thing is that this is rumor and as such we don’t really know much about the details and it would just all be minless speculation in which I would most likely say something that Dave Clark or Jeremiah Oshan already wrote (I honestly haven’t read it yet).

There is also the more complicated nature of there being another interested team, Toronto FC, that has some cash and has a couple DP openings. While the location seems a bit peculiar, it’s been rather expected that Gomez would be returning to MLS and sooner rather than later.

Grant Wahl is by no means someone who spouts mindless information. He’s also not a Ken Rosenthal that speaks for player agents that helps market or drive prices up based off convenient speculation of situations and teams. I think it’s a safe bet to think both parties are equally interested, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see one or even more than a few teams enter the fray.

We’ll just have to wait and see where this goes.
