Seattle Sounders FC Transfer Window Closes With No Moves

There was random speculation with Herculez Gomez on the block that the Sounders may, or may not, make a quick move on the down low. Sigi Schmid put any and all rumors to bed when asked about a possible late transfer.

“I don’t think so, If we did we’d have a much better idea than today. So, no: I don’t think we’re doing anything.”

If the Sounders were to make any moves at this point a lot of things point to the summer transfer window. At that point the Sounders are going to have a much better outlook on this squad, as well as a better understanding of their strengths and weaknesses.

There are a lot of question marks associated with this squad going into the third full month of the seasons. True, there are a lot of injuries but at the same time the squad as a whole has under performed.

Add to that the predictability of those who have been injured early on and it could point to the necessity to find some individuals who don’t have that history. I don’t have specific examples of personnel but it’s something that could be targeted come June/July time frame.

The Sounders have one goal and that’s an MLS Cup. You don’t need to do anymore than collect 40-something points. That’s not very ambitious and I can’t see much in the way of a situation where they are completely out of that realm of possibilities come the next transfer window.

The key for making a proper MLS Cup run will strictly related to depth and health. The Seattle Sounders FC are going to eventually need to break out beyond what they have now and find something more as they head to the playoffs.
