Seattle Sounders vs. FC Dallas
We learned several things about the Seattle Sounders on Wednesday evening.
Obafemi Martins is “The Distributor”
Obafemi Martins has 6 assists and leads MLS. He was frustrated all night, and seemed to be looking for the assist rather than to pull the trigger and take a shot. Late in the game in the final 30 minutes, Martins slotted a pass to Lamar Neagle to pull the game level at 1-1. Martins was constantly hounded all night with three or four defenders collapsing on him every time he touched the ball.
It is somewhat of a godsend for the Sounders that Martins will not be traveling to Brazil to be part of Nigeria’s World Cup team. He will certainly be looked at to notch some marks in the goals column.
Lamar Neagle has been the Silent Warrior.
Lamar Neagle has 4 goals and 3 assists through 10 games for the Seattle Sounders. While Clint Dempsey and Obafemi Martins are the talk of the league, Neagle has quietly already produced half of his goal total from all of 2013. With Dempsey heading off to play for the national team after Saturday’s game, Lamar will be a main weapon in the offensive attack.
Kenny Cooper: On the bench, but not forgotten.
Kenny Cooper helped the improbable become probable. In the waning minutes of the game, after subbing on for Lamar Neagle with 5 minutes to play in regulation, Cooper put in the go ahead shot with a blue-collar work ethic. He has been largely relegated to bench duty with Dempsey taking on the role of an attacking forward. Cooper, like Neagle, will be needed to keep this amazing 2014 season going.
The Seattle Sounders notched their 7th win of the season in the first 10 games. It took the team until July 3rd last year to reach that same point. 15 weeks into the season.
The team also continued its torrid pace of goal scoring and is still on pace to break the MLS record.
