Sounders Player Ratings: 0-2 vs NYCFC

Let's take a look at who were the tops and flops (spoiler alert: mostly flops) in the Sounders' loss. rn[recentposts align="right" thiscategory="no"]rnrnThe Sounders registered what is becoming a disturbingly regular routine loss against New York City FC on Saturday, and there weren't many positives to take from the game either. Sigi Schmid's men now sit a full seven points from LA Galaxy in the sixth and final playoff spot for the western conference, and the season's bleak outlook is getting bleaker by the week. Mandatory Credit: Jennifer Buchanan-USA TODAY Sports[/caption]rnrn Defenders rnrn Stefan Frei - 7 (MOTM) rnThere's a very good case to be made for the Sounders' Swiss shot stopper winning the Player of the Match award, and for good reason. Frei made 4 saves in the game, a couple of which were quite impressive, and commanded his box to the best ability we can expect in a game such as this. He couldn't have reasonably done anything about the two goals conceded, and will walk away understandably furious with his defensive line.rnrn Tyrone Mears - 5 rnTyrone showed signs of his summer 2015 self during this game, but only in microscopic quantities. In 2015 he put on titanic efforts to dig the Sounders out of their summer slump, but for this year's apocalypse he seems to be but a helpless spectator. Didn't contribute much going forward, but wasn't responsible for anything notably poor defensively.rnrn Brad Evans - 6 rnCaptain WonderBrad did his best to keep David Villa at bay, and to his credit succeeded in that, but as a captain it is your responsibility to organize the team and the organization for the play in which Lampard scored (albeit illegally, yes) was nothing short of abysmal. If it weren't for the heroics of Stefan Frei and poor NYCFC finishing, the poor defensive structure in this game could have led to a far more unsavory scoreline - and that's saying something.[morestories url="https://soundersnation.com/2016/06/27/match-recap-s2-falls-to-swope-park-rangers-at-home/" title="must read" teaser="Match Recap: S2 Falls to Swope Park Rangers at Home"]rnrn Chad Marshall - 5 rnAir Marshall did what he does best in this game: win aerial balls and let the opposition cut inside on him. Looked like he might score off a corner in the first half and was a solid rock for the lofted balls in the Sounders' third, but on his feet wasn't much to write home about.rnrn Dylan Remick - 5rn Looked good going forward, as usual, but was suspect defensively as the veteran NYCFC attackers took him for a ride. Becoming somewhat predictable in his attacking play, but still a better option at fullback than the calamity that is Joevin Jones. rnrn Midfielders rnrn Osvaldo Alonso - 6 rnAside from his once-a-game awful shot that sails thirty yards over the goal, Ozzie wasn't bad in this game. Had a lot of sideways passes from his deep midfield position, but a fair few of those didn't find their target. Was more active defensively than Friberg or Ivanschitz, but that's to be expected. Business as usual for the Cuban.rnrnhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y1UYKQRyzXYrnrn Erik Friberg - 5 rnNo shots and only one key pass throughout the game - not exactly scintillating stuff from the Swede. His post-injury rejuvenation seems to have already wore off, but he was by no means awful. Sat at the edge of NYCFC's third for the majority of his distribution, but unfortunately most of those distributions were also outside of their third.rnrn Andreas Ivanschitz - 4.5 rnI'm very conflicted about Andreas in this game. He had three key passes ( according to MLS ), tied for the most in the team with Tyrone Mears, but he also had TEN misplaced passes and no shots throughout the entire game. The Austrian is creating chances, but, similarly to his home nation at Euro 2016, none of them are being finished. rnrn Forwards/Wingers rnrn Aaron Kovar - 4 rnThe 22 year old American was basically invisible in this game, and sat passenger as Mears streaked up and down the right flank. Didn't do anything calamitous, but as an attacking player you're expected to make some sort of impact.[relatedstory url="https://soundersnation.com/2016/06/26/wayward-sounders-fall-2-0-new-york-city-fc/" teaser="Wayward Sounders Fall 2-0 to New York City FC"]rnrn Jordan Morris - 6 rnJordan was up to his usual tricks here, getting on the end of and creating for himself good chances but finishing none of them. Three shots in the game, both to the left side of goal, and at least one of which you'd expect to be finished. He'll need to find a finishing touch if the Sounders are to make any sort of serious push for the playoffs.rnrn Joevin Jones - 2 rnMy word, we've really saved the worst for last here now haven't we? Since coming in during the winter from Chicago, Joevin Jones has exposed himself as perhaps the biggest fraud in Seattle since Shalrie Joseph. In this game, playing as a left sided winger, Jones registered one shot, zero completed passes in or into the NYCFC box, zero successful tackles, a 78% passing accuracy, and zero successful dribbles. Oh, and of course that abysmal backpass to set up NYCFC's second goal. Frankly, Jones put in perhaps the worst performance of any player this season, and I honestly hope he is dropped from the starting eleven for a lengthy period of time.
