Seattle Sounder Deandre Yedlin could be headed to AS Roma as soon as next week:Steven Bisig-USA TODAY Sports

Deandre Yedlin To AS Roma Back On?

Get ready for whiplash, it appears Seattle Sounder Deandre Yedlin may just be heading to AS Roma after-all.

It had been a quiet week. After last week’s unending Yedlin rumor cycle, Greg Seltzer of MLS Soccer and No Short Corners quieted the conversation with a revelation, Deandre Yedlin to AS Roma was dead.  There had been no further reports or rumors since.

It should come as a surprise to no one.

In 2013 amidst the build-up and craziness that was #DempseyWatch, Sounders ownership tried to quiet the noise by hinting it was not a real possibility, in an effort to assure they were able to sign their star player Clint Dempsey

Today Keith Costigan of dropped a bomb when he tweeted out a comment by Roma’s owner:

Costigan followed it up shortly with this:

Could the Seattle Sounders have tried to quell the rumor mill regarding Yedlin, in order to give them some time to finalize a deal with AS Roman? It certainly appears that way. If its true the announcement might be timed to coincide with MLS’s All-Star game next week against Bayern Munich. The game is set to take place in Portland, and what better way to stoke a rivalry than announce a major export signing for MLS  in Portland’s back yard.

Last week it was reveled Yedlin and camp were looking to leave for Europe “sooner rather than later“. The price tag the Sounders had reportedly put out there for teams to acquire his services was in the neighborhood of $6.5 million.

In all likelihood Deandre Yedlin’s last game as a sounders could be on Monday night against the LA Galaxy on ESPN 2 at 7:00pm. It would be a fitting sendoff and final home game for one of Seattle’s own.
