Earlier today rumors surfaced from Empireofsoccer.com that Sigi Schmid was set to swap the Pacific Northwest for New York. The Sounders boss apparently open to working with new expansion side New York City FC.

The bombshell was being reported by Dave Martinez, Editor in Chief of the site and somebody with his finger on the pulse of New York soccer. Martinez states that the rumor is actually coming from former USMNT goalkeeper, Shep Messing. Yesterday this tweet was released:

After the initial concern and panic, it quickly becomes increasingly obvious that it just didn’t seem likely on the face of things. Would Schmid really want to move to NYCFC? There are certainly a lot of reasons that jump out why he wouldn’t.

Thankfully, the whole matter appears to have since been cleared up. Matt Pentz, Seattle Times Sounders beat writer took to Twitter to report:

So that is that. We can all take a breathe and be safe in the knowledge that out very own Sigi Schmid is still 100% focused on masterminding MLS Cup glory for the Sounders.
