The Sounders look like they have stepped away from Boca Juniors playmaker and transfer target and Nicolas Lodeiro.
It is obvious that the Sounders need to find a playmaker this transfer upcoming summer transfer window, which starts July 4th. One person the Sounders thought would be a perfect fit for this need was Uruguayan international and Boca Juniors playmaker Nicolas Lodeiro. But Sounder at Heart reported on Monday that Seattle has given up their pursuit of Lodiero.
A report form Univsion Deportes says that Boca Juniors are raising their asking price and it is currently at a point Seattle can’t afford. But if Boca Juniors reach out to Seattle again with a lower price tag on Lodeiro, the deal could still happen. But as of now, “the issue is dead.”
Could this actually be Seattle stepping away from Lodeiro and looking elsewhere? We already know that Seattle has made contact and possibly put a bid down for Sebastian Blanco from San Lorenzo. Chris Henderson and Matt Johnson have also said the club is looking at a few more players around the 26-28 age range. If all this is true, then it looks like the Sounders are safe to move past Lodeiro and look somewhere else.
But what if this is all part of a negotiation tactic? It was reported that Lodeiro wants to complete a move to Seattle. If he wants the move that badly, he could push Boca Juniors to give him a lower price tag in order to get the Sounders to pick him up.
Whoever the Sounders pick up, they need to make sure this player will be someone that can help the team in the long run and have a positive impact on the team for years to come. Keep following Sounders Nation for the latest Sounders transfer news and rumors.
